The Musical Ghost
Each tine i hear a really captivating melody , i keep humming it for days and wonder about that magical moment when the composer created it. Magic! These are really special moments, and it’s almost like there’s this tap which someone opens and all these beautiful compositions flow out and you just accept the offering ,until the tap is shut once again.
Someone out there is in a benevolent mood and you become a medium through which the energy flows. Composing is a knack. It cannot be taught. And composing a haunting melody is even more rare.
Well, I was told that in olden times, there was this musician who used to accompany one of the dancers playing for her on several days ,as her accompanist. On one of these practise sessions, long after the dancer left, this musician was lost in practise , it was really late at night, with only the beautiful notes of the sarangi in the air creating magic.
There was a knock on the door and in came a very royal looking Old man, very well dressed in white and had a commanding prescence. He wore several rings and had a long white beard and sat opposite the musician ,listening quietly. The musician continued playing, thinking that he must be some relative of one of the dancers and once again got lost in his practise.when he opened his eyes after a while,he saw this royal looking man standing in front of him and smiling. He put his hand in his pocket and took out a few gold coins and gave them to the musician and told him not to tell anyone that this happened, and quietly left. The musician was surprised.
But this was just the beginning, this happened on the following night again and again. the musician wanted to boast about this and could’nt keep this to himself and mentioned it to the dancer and also showed her all the gold coins given to him.
The same night, after the old man was seated listening to the musician, the dancer out of curiosity walked in to have a look at this person who she had been hearing about. As soon as she entered and came closer to the man, something shocking happened. The old man no longer looked like the royal and music loving person, his face transformed into a really scary and evil looking creature.
Both, the dancer and the musician were so shocked, that they fainted.
Since that day,the musician never played that particular raga again when he was alone or was playing late at night. He believed that the ghost in the form of the old man would re appear. Well,Ghost’s love music too. And there are several such instances ,where musicians experience the supernatural at times, when they sit and play for hours by themselves.
Music heals, music is therapeutic and helps you transcend and reach a higher level of spiritual growth, because when you sit by yourself and practise for hours, you are actually meditating and can reach a higher zone of peace and tranquility.
It certainly has the power to reach out to us and the listeners of another world too.
